So my car decided that it no longer wanted to go above 55 mph. Any attempt to go faster than this was met with the engine revving but, no extra power. So, due to my belief that driving 55 mph on a freeway is dangerous I had my car towed to Summit Transmissions to be checked.

They drove it, tested it, drained the transmission fluid, ran it through the whole gamut of checks but unfortunately, the problem would not replicate itself. Since I have had weird electrical issues with the car since I bought it, I asked after all the tests were done if that could have something to do with it and the guy working there said yes, it might.

But again, why am I giving 5 stars to someone that technically did not correct my problem?

Because

1. They tried. They tried tirelessly to find it and when they couldn't, instead of faking a problem and charging me hundreds of dollars for something that wouldn't have solved anything I wound up being charged something like 80 dollars for what was several hours of work. So that was amazing.

2. Explained everything they were doing and going to try to do over the phone and were very professional about everything. I have had mechanics in the past that don't seem to care and are rude, but these guys were great.

3. Since my car was with them, and I needed to be to work the following day, I needed to take a cab out to meet them. This despite the fact that they offered to pick me up at the trolley station if I could get there since I live like 20 minutes away. Well, the cab companies in Chula Vista are terrible, and what started out with me calling a cab at about 3:50 pm resulted in me not being able to get to Summit until about 6:30 pm (aka one hour after they closed).

"I admit I'm not big on writing reviews but this place deserves a shout out. I had an issue with my truck regarding a traction control error on my dash and it was running really bad. I took it to Express Lube near my house to get it looked at, I was going to in there anyway to get the brakes and oil change done. They could not fix the traction control issue so they referred me to Summit Transmissions ASAP.

Upon arriving at Summit I was welcomed by Jerry and Sandy. They ran a diagnostic on my truck and Jerry explained to me everything what was going on. The error the computer was reporting was unrelated how the truck was running so he wanted to start with the basics and do some maintenance I needed anyway. and see if that fixes it. He really stressed to me that he did not want to fix anything unnecessary.. He ended up changing the spark plugs and wires because 1 plug was burned out and the others were on the way. He hoped that would do the trick but it didn't, so instead of doing any more work or sending me away to the unknown Jerry got on the phone with the dealer. It was thought to be a serious engine compression issue and most likely be covered the powertrain warranty. So I figured while my truck was at Summit I should at least get the breaks and oil changed done but Jerry wanted to get the main issue fixed before doing that.

So off to the dealer I went. The final conclusion from the dealer was a fairly common issue that had been happening. GM had released a memo regarding the fuel control lifters and stated some of them were sticking on this model truck. The dealer is currently replacing all 8 lifters and everything is covered under the factory powertrain warranty. This repair is saving me over $4K.

I want to say THANK YOU to Jerry for being so honest and helpful, if not for his help I would have been bouncing around to different mechanics trying to figure out what was going on costing me a ton of money. I prob would have used the dealer as a last resort due to the cost and my standard warranty being

"I've dealt with Jerry 3 times in the past 18 years and had excellent service each time.

Recently, I had trouble with a slipping clutch in my '89 Toyota 4WD truck. The old shop in El Cajon had moved since my last visit and I searched for a couple days trying to find out where. I called the number on one of their old receipts and was lucky to find them in La Mesa.

'Long story short - due to the age of my truck, they ran into a few issues that fell outside the scope of the regular work however, Jerry and his crew went out of their way to make sure everything was done right. Thank you!

They do quality work at a fair price. Jerry has always been above board and very honest each time that I've gone to them.

"Have a Jeep Cherokee and was recently told we needed a new transmission and would cost $3500. To our knowledge the only test they did was drove it. We were told it was 'slipping' and 'very dangerous to drive home". I looked for reviews and thankfully found Jerry. What a difference! He took the time to actually ride with my husband in car. Then when he could not find problem, he wanted to keep over weekend and drive again Monday. His employee drove the car on Monday and found no issue. Jerry then drove again and still, no problem. Being that the car had $80K miles, we serviced the transmission (it had never been done before). Jerry said he would not sell us a transmission b/c he did not see it to be a problem. Jerry's total cost $130.00 The other place $3,500. I could tell just by over the phone, he is a genuine person. In person, he explains things (kinda like being in a doctors office!). We are grateful to have met Jerry and should we ever need a transmission (lets pray not!), we will DEFINITELY go back! Great person to do business with and you walk away feeling like you did not get sold something you never needed! Thank you Jerry! :)"
